Charles Wilson, LCPC, is a licensed professional counselor. Charles graduated with his master of arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University, and completed his B.S. in Psychology from Lynchburg University. Since 2019, he has been developing his clinical skills in a variety of inpatient settings, most recently providing intensive trauma therapy to Firefighters with PTSD and comorbid disorders.

As a DBT therapist, Charles emphasizes helping clients develop mindfulness and insight, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and dialectical thinking. It is important to Charles to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with the client. Through exploring emotional patterns within a safe and empathetic connection, Charles assists the client in developing understanding and control over these experiences.

At the International Association of Firefighters Center of Excellence, Charles provided Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to a variety of first responders in an inpatient setting. Charles was responsible there for the application of trauma treatment to a wide range of cases. Charles’ work has primarily been with adults and older adolescents.

Prior to working with the IAFF, Charles completed internship, practicum, and initial clinical experiences with National Capital Treatment and subsequently Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute. He has experience working with PTSD, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, OCD, and personality disorders.
