Lindsay Koosed, LCSW-C

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

A native of Virginia Beach and a Maryland resident, Lindsay (she/her) self-identifies as a New Yorker. Before graduating from University of Maryland’s School of Social Work and coming to DBT, Lindsay had a long and varied career that started with her obtaining a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

After spending several years as a rehearsal director of a modern dance company in NYC – while also establishing the Pilates business for the Equinox chain of gyms – Lindsay began volunteering as a crisis counselor. This led her to consider a career in social work, which she pursued in earnest after her two children were born and she moved to Maryland.

Lindsay first began work as a crisis counselor, then trained and supervised other crisis counselors, and then helped to establish the local chapter of the National 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline. She has extensive training in crisis prevention and intervention services and has been consulted in this work by local and federal lawmakers.

For two recent summers, Lindsay has also worked with children, adolescents, and young adults as a social worker at a sleepaway camp in Pennsylvania. This has carried over to her DBT practice, where Lindsay works with adolescents and adults who want to better understand emotion regulation and create their life worth living. Lindsay has comprehensive training in DBT from the Behavioral Tech Institute. She recently completed a year-long fellowship with the University of Chicago under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Holmes, exploring a modified approach to DBT – Contextually-Focused DBT – which leans into the contextual and acceptance-based aspects of DBT. Lindsay also has in-depth training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Lindsay is especially passionate about working with family systems, particularly parents, to help them navigate the most precious parts of their lives. Through this work, Lindsay is grateful for the wisdom her clients bring, and how that wisdom enhances her own life.

Outside of work, Lindsay enjoys strength training, going to the theater, reading, and long walks (on the beach). She can often be found carting her children about town to their various activities, and scrambling for a date-night with her husband where they can explore the latest culinary offerings of the area.
